Ingredient & Nutrition FAQ

How to read our labels, why we choose certain nutrient forms, and what the numbers on the panel actually mean.

What does this site cover?

Velna Zvis Nutrition focuses on ingredients and nutrients - what is in each formula, which form we use and why, and how to read a Supplement Facts panel. For daily routine advice see velnazivswellness.com.

How do I read a Supplement Facts panel?

Start with the serving size, then the amount per serving, then the % Daily Value. The ingredients listed under the panel are inactive ingredients - fillers, colors and sweeteners - listed by weight.

What is the difference between compound weight and elemental weight?

Compound weight is the whole molecule - for example 1800mg of magnesium taurate. Elemental weight is just the mineral itself. Labels usually declare the elemental amount, so compare that figure between products.

Why do you prefer chelated minerals?

A chelate is a mineral bound to an organic molecule such as an amino acid. Magnesium bound to taurine, for example, is absorbed differently from magnesium oxide, which is poorly soluble and largely passes through unabsorbed.

Are your botanical extracts standardized?

Our aged garlic extract is produced through a controlled aging process that develops S-allyl cysteine (SAC), the stable compound aged garlic is standardized around. Exact amounts are on each product's Supplement Facts panel.

Do you use synthetic or food-based nutrients?

Both, depending on the goal. Beef liver is a whole-food source of preformed vitamin A, B12 and heme iron. Where we use an isolated compound - magnesium taurate, for instance - it is chosen for a specific absorption profile.

What is heme iron?

Heme iron comes from animal tissue and is absorbed through a dedicated pathway in the intestinal wall, so it is less affected by other foods in the meal. Non-heme iron from plants is more sensitive to inhibitors such as phytates and calcium.

How should I store supplements?

Keep bottles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap closed. The best-before date is printed on each bottle. Do not store gummies in a humid bathroom cabinet.

Can I take several supplements at once?

Often yes, but some pairs compete. Calcium and magnesium compete for absorption in large amounts, and long-term high-dose zinc can affect magnesium balance. Spacing them by a few hours is a common approach.

Are these the same products sold on velnazivs.com?

Yes - identical formulas from the same Velna Zvis range, presented here with ingredient-level detail.
